Yao Dixiong was born in Urumqi, Xinjiang in 1949 and moved to Australia in 1979. In 1983, he became the first Chinese painter to be sponsored by the Australian government. In 1985, he completed the longest painting in Australia and the world’s first “2000 Kangaroo Picture” created in the art form of Chinese painting. The 63-meter-long painting was exhibited as a special program for the Australian government to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the founding of the country, the 150th anniversary of the founding of Victoria, Australia, the maiden flight of Australia-Malaysia Airlines, the Pacific Regional Tourism Conference, and the 200th anniversary of Chinese arrival in Hawaii. The second 120-meter long painting “Man and Nature – Soul of Australian” was completed in 2001. This is an epic work, a symphony reflecting the coexistence of Aboriginal art and man and nature. It is based on the unique art forms developed by the Aborigines living on the mainland for 100,000 years and relying on nature as the main line. This mural painting combines together with Aboriginal paintings, stone carvings, wood carvings, weaving, music, singing and dancing, legends and the unique natural landscapes, birds and beasts of the six provinces of Australia and the Northern Territory. As a special event of The 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Australia, this mural painting was invited to be exhibited at the National Museum of China.
Yao Dixiong now mainly paints horses. He has an in-depth understanding of the muscles, bones, habits and structures of horses. The horses in his paintings are either agile and handsome, or unrestrained and wild, manifested the external and internal temperament of horses.

姚迪雄现以画马为主，他对马的肌肉、骨胳、习性、结构等有深入的了解，其笔下的马或灵动、俊美，或奔放、野性，将马的外在和内在的气质都能完美的体现出来。
